Apparently the Liberals don’t want the Conservatives messing with rules about how the Gomery Inquiry can name names and lay blame. Instead, the Liberals would like to make their own rules on how they will be held accountable for their corruption in the adscam debacle. Am I the only one that who has a problem with liars/cheats making the rules on how they will be judged on their lying and cheating?
From the Globe:
Ottawa — The federal Liberals are fighting an Opposition motion on the sponsorship inquiry with a motion of their own.
The Tories plan to introduce a motion today to alter the terms of reference for the Gomery commission.
The motion calls on the government to allow Justice John Gomery to ”name names and assign responsibility” in his findings from the sponsorship inquiry.
Public Works Minister Scott Brison, however, says Judge Gomery can already do all that.
And he says a government motion he plans to introduce will spell that out.
Justice Minister Irwin Cotler calls the Conservative motion groundless and unnecessary.
And he warns that its passage could have a negative impact on the inquiry.
Justice Gomery is examining what went wrong with the $250-million federal sponsorship program.
He has heard testimony that some of the money was funnelled back to the Liberal party through false invoices, sometimes in cash-stuffed envelopes.
