Liberal priorities: Liberals to fast-track gay bill

It’s a bare minority government, after all, so the Liberals might be worried about an election being forced on them before they get a chance to re-engineer Canada and its most fundamental foundational roots.  That’s what bare tenuous minorities do in modern democracies around the world…. don’t they?

They don’t want to risk not passing the things that are really important to them, like changing the definition of “family” and “marriage” to suit them.  So it appears the Liberals are prepared to ram their biggest social re-engineering law through, to ensure a Mo Liberal Canada no matter what happens in the nuisance “democracy” called Canada.

“Fast track” and “government” are two terms not usually used in the same sentence, but when it comes to Liberals and their agenda to liberalize the nation, they’re like bunnies.

I guess they hope they can then finally get on with the rest of their agenda—relaxing the post smoking laws so our kids can get high on drugs more easily, and finally getting prostitution legal so all the men of the country can finally “get some” without having to worry about “wives” and “family” and “police”. You did vote for gay marriage and state-run brothels, didn’t you?  And the pot.  All the fantastic pot smoking in Mo Liberal Canada… and welfare for all. Sure, the economy, our national security, the dumb old budget, and nonsense like “morality” is high on the agenda too.  They’ll get to those things!

Gay bill fast-tracked
Same-sex nuptials law by summer, Liberals say

OTTAWA – The federal government told Liberal MPs yesterday it will push same-sex marriage legislation through Parliament before a summer recess, prompting critics to charge the Liberals are ignoring public complaints about the controversial bill.

Only two days after the three other parties agreed to extend committee hearings on the legislation to mid-June and Conservative MP Vic Toews claimed victory, he resigned himself to defeat upon hearing Liberal MPs were informed in their weekly caucus meeting that the bill will likely become law this summer.

One MP said Liberal senators have agreed to extra sittings in July to hasten the legislation through its final stages before royal assent.

“Obviously the government is willing to ram this through as quickly as possible,” Mr. Toews said.

“There is nothing we can do about that. If that’s the government’s intent, and they have the support of their members, then that will be what happens.”

The unexpected development took the bill’s opponents by surprise, with at least one group expressing surprise the Conservatives appear to be ready to concede the fight.

“I can’t believe they won’t put amendments through; that was the game plan,” said Gwendolyn Landolt, the national vice-president of REAL Women of Canada, who is to testify at the committee today.

“[The government] says they want to hear what the public says, but they’ve already made up their mind,” Ms. Landolt said.

“It’s in keeping with the Liberal policy—they know best and they’ll do whatever they like regardless of the public.”
