Mugging is prohibited by law now. But apparently the prohibition isn’t working. I suspect liberals are going to seek to legalize it now after they read this story. Perhaps tax the victims in order to raise extra cash for the on-going liberal abortion-funding and promotion campaign. That could thus solve the “problem” of the woman in this story being pregnant, and make it even less noteworthy to liberals.

Claims male duo watched as teen robbed her

[April 18 2005]An expectant mother who was mugged while waiting for a bus downtown doesn’t know who she’s more disgusted with—the teenage girl who robbed her, or the two male bystanders who didn’t lift a finger to help. “I’m 7 1/2 months pregnant, so to be attacked like that was a real shock,” said the 25-year-old, who asked to be identified only as Rachelle.
“I just hope that what goes around comes around.”
Rachelle was waiting for a bus at the corner of Portage Avenue and Vaughn Street just after midnight on Saturday, when a group of four or five teenage girls walked by her.
One of the girls turned and came back, then began hitting and punching Rachelle while ordering her to give up her money.
Frightened for her safety, and the safety of her unborn baby, Rachelle began screaming frantically for help.
‘PLEASE STOP’
“The girl came up behind me, put her hand over my mouth, pulled me to the ground and started pulling my purse away from me,” she said. “I just kept telling her I was pregnant and to please stop.”
The assailant finally wrestled the purse from Rachelle’s grasp and ran away, leaving her crying hysterically on the sidewalk.
The incident unfolded just metres from where two men were standing waiting for the bus. Neither one ever offered to help, Rachelle said.
“One of them finally said he thought (the assailant) had known me,” Rachelle said.
To add insult to injury, when Rachelle’s bus arrived moments later, the driver almost didn’t let her on board.
“The bus driver looked at me like I was crazy,” she said. “I had to shout at him to please open the door because I’d just been mugged.”
GOOD SAMARITAN
Apparently reluctant to believe Rachelle’s version of events, the driver instead asked the two bystanders if she had in fact been robbed.
The driver later told her there was “nothing she could do about it now, so she might as well sit down,” she claimed.
The bus ride home proved there are still Good Samaritans out there—in this case, a wheelchair-bound man named Larry who made sure she made it to her mother’s house unharmed.
Rachelle has since filed a report with police, and a trip to the doctor revealed her baby was unharmed in the attack.
But her confidence in her fellow man is understandably shaken.
“For the duration of my pregnancy anyway, I am absolutely terrified to go downtown, even in broad daylight,” she said. “It’s really unfortunate that it’s gotten to the point where people feel the need to beat up on pregnant women.”
A police spokesman confirmed yesterday the purse-snatching is under investigation.
What would inspire liberals to engage in a battle? Well we know of a few things that would: Ann Coulter coming to town, free markets, spreading freedom and democracy and women’s rights in the world, private enterprise fixing our decrepit healthcare system, and other such nefarious non-liberal things. But not a pregnant woman getting mugged at a bus stop. Life is meaningless unless you live within a culture of life.
