Liberal legacy: dependent Indians with dirty water

The Liberal government spent about $100,000,000,000 over the past ten years on aboriginal programs and support for Canada’s First Nations.  That’s one hundred billion dollars.  And now, thanks to all that Liberal government benevolence and you the taxpayer, dozens of reserves —humans, children, families— have no drinking water.  Fantastic.

Which of course immediately reminds me to visit World Vision‘s web site and make another donation so that they can save literally countless thousands or millions of lives again this year in third-world countries with no drinking water.  Helpful hint for liberals:  Check out World Vision’s guide for tips on how to do it!

Water still a problem on 76 reserves

Seventy-six First Nations communities remain under an advisory to boil drinking water, according to new information from Health Canada.

That’s despite the fact the federal Department of Indian and Northern Affairs has spent almost $2 billion to upgrade systems in the past five years.

[…] Among the findings:

  • Drinking water in two-thirds of First Nations communities remains “at risk,” compared to three-quarters of all such communities in 2001.

  • Sixty-two per cent of water-system operators serving native communities aren’t properly certified.

  • Some of the 76 reserves still under boil-water advisories, about 10 per cent of all First Nations reserves in the country, have been in that position for years. People are forced to rely on bottled water for drinking, cooking and brushing their teeth, and some residents say the water is too dirty even for bathing.

[…] There are still no laws or regulatory standards similar to those in non-native communities, when it comes to drinking water for the about 325,000 residents of Canada’s First Nations reserves, Gelinas, who works in the auditor general’s office, pointed out.

  • World Vision logoExcellent!  I imagine World Vision might setup a program to help Canada soon, along with those places like Malawi.  Of course it would have to get through the genius liberal-left know-it-alls who got us to this place in the first place, who would object to World Vision’s non-government programs which for example offer services “enabling low-income entrepreneurs to overcome the constraints of poverty, and build prosperous futures for themselves, their families and communities”.  What’s this?  “Build prosperous futures for themselves, their families and communities?” That ain’t liberal!  Plus, them’s Christians!  Church and state!  Church and state!

World Vision only spent $338,245,000 (three hundred thirty-eight million) last year (nearly all from donations). In other words they were effective.  I know!  That ain’t liberal either!

Perhaps the government needs to double their support of $100,000,000,000.  Maybe THEN the First Nations will have basic necessities of life like drinking water that isn’t loaded with arsenic.  Yes make it $200,000,000,000 for the next ten years.  That’s nearly a third of a TRILLION dollars over 20 years, from you the taxpayer, filtered through the government.  That should buy some clean water.

Plus, this way, the natives would be more dependent on government.  Yummy!

NOW you’re thinking like a liberal-left socialist!  Vote Liberal!
