Liberal insider says Martin rushed choice for G-G

…or to put it another way, “Once again, the PMO come out looking like the gang that can’t shoot straight on this.”  That’s how Conservative Senator Marjorie LeBreton put it, massively understating the case.

So first we have this information:

[…] Helene Scherrer, the prime minister’s principal secretary, has proudly taken credit for identifying the former CBC broadcaster to Martin as a candidate during a June 10 meeting.

Scherrer told the National Post that Martin ordered her to “go and see her.”

“He came back to me on the next Monday to say: ‘Did you see her?,’ ” Scherrer told the Post. “I said: ‘No, I didn’t think you were that serious on Friday and that it was a rush.’ And he said: “Yes, I want you to see her.’ “

“I said: ‘This is it.’ And he said: ‘Yes it is. That’s the one.’ ” Scherrer recalled in her interview with the newspaper.

LeBreton claimed Scherrer’s comments on the appointment reveal that a hasty decision might have been made without due diligence. A senior government official who is familiar with the appointment process said normally a candidate is not approached until background checks by the RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and a round of telephone calls to the potential appointees’ colleagues and friends by PMO staff.

Then this statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, which we’ll go ahead and maintain in our records for possible future reference:

The Prime Minister’s Office continued yesterday to dismiss allegations that the future regal couple have separatist leanings, maintaining “there was a rigorous screening process in advance of Madame Jean’s appointment that departed in no way from the norm and involving the Privy Council Office, RCMP and Canadian Security Intelligence Service.”

Personally, I’d like to see a day-to-day diary of events leading up to this.

Meanwhile, Liberal lackey and official suckup Scott Reid maintains the liberal-left tradition of their arrogant and dismissive attitude toward citizens who simply disagree with them or who have caught them with their pants down, by deeming whatever they say as “a smear campaign”, and calling anyone who doesn’t agree with them on any issue an “extremist” or “un-Canadian” or a “hard-liner” or some such negative-sounding moniker:

“Sadly, their belief in Canada has made them targets of a deliberate and orchestrated smear campaign by hardline separatists.”

Come again?  “Their belief in Canada has made them targets….”?!  Oh the humor.

There’s your complete and utter baloney liberal-left spin du jour.  Of course it’s early yet.
