Islamists break ceasefire and lob rockets in Israel

This violation of the 5-day-old ceasefire won’t be reported as much as any Israeli defensive action that might ensue.  The truce won’t be seen as “broken” until Israel defends itself.  For example, the state-owned media in Canada, CBC, headlines it “Rocket fire, raid threaten fragile Gaza truce”.  A Reuters report says:  “Gaza truce shaken by rocket fire, killings in WBank”.  It’s not actually “broken” until Israel breaks it.

This is a APF report:

Two Gaza rockets slam into southern Israel

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Two rockets fired from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip slammed into southern Israel on Tuesday, despite an Egyptian-brokered truce between Israel and the Islamist movement which entered its sixth day.

One of the rockets struck the courtyard of a house in the hard-hit town of Sderot, causing some damage, and another struck a field outside town, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

He said the rockets were the first to be fired from the Palestinian territory since a truce between Israel and the Gaza Strip’s Hamas rulers went into effect on June 19.

Islamic Jihad told AFP its fighters had carried out the attack.

By the way, while it’s big news on all the world news outlets (front page on FoxNews.com and others), here in Canada on the national TV news web sites CBC.ca and CTV.ca, it’s buried in their “other” categories—not among their “top stories”.
