‘Housewives’ Star Denies Lesbian Rumors

Well I guess that Desperate Housewives’ Marcia Cross is a lesbian thing didn’t work out so well.  Maybe Ellen gave her some showbiz/TV series advice, or maybe it was just a media rumour.

This was part of my February 8th blog entry in which I waxed sardonic about liberal Hollywood:

[…] And she will pose on the cover of US [gay] mag, The Advocate, to confirm her sexuality.

The Sun quotes a show insider as saying: “Everyone on the show is aware of Marcia’s leanings, as is the rest of Hollywood.

“She hasn’t made a secret of it. Some of the other housewives were worried the news might hurt the ratings. But creator Marc Cherry is gay and very supportive of her decision.”

But this is today’s huge news:

NEW YORK – Marcia Cross is making it clear that while she’s no desperate housewife, she’s not gay, either. The “Desperate Housewives” star said she wasn’t a lesbian after “The View” co-host Barbara Walters questioned her Wednesday on rumors regarding her sexuality.

“I’m not,” said Cross.

She wondered how the rumors had gotten started.

“Well, it was very odd,” said Cross. “And I, I just assumed this is what comes of being 42 and single. I don’t know if they just needed to find a reason why I wasn’t married.”

Cross’ publicist had earlier released a statement denying the reports.

The actress was filling in for “The View” co-host Meredith Vieira. Each day, a different star from “Desperate Housewives” has been a guest host on the ABC daytime talk show while it airs from Los Angeles.

Cross said she didn’t know what all the fuss was about.

“I do think it was really weird, though, that there was all this curiosity about something, like that — about sexuality,” she said. “And I thought what a world we live in that that’s so important.”

…apparently missing the point of that whole “birds and bees” thing.  But thank God we cleared this huge news up.
