Sun Media’s Greg Weston, whom I point to with embarrassing regularity (I promise to stop), is the only media man I’ve found who will back up my contention made yesterday that the west does actually in fact exist, people do live and work there, and that whole “British Columbia” thing isn’t simply a “what if” scenario.

We interrupt Paul Martin’s six minutes of free political propaganda on prime-time television to bring you a sobering moment of truth in your morning newspaper.

The next election campaign just started, and it is going to be one ugly encounter.

With the Liberals tanking in the polls and the Adscam inquiry getting hotter by the day, the prime minister’s “address to the nation” was more like a national grovel to the voters.

Make no mistake: Martin’s pitch on the public airwaves had nothing to do with any national emergency.

For one thing, it was broadcast in real time across the country.

If the prime minister was addressing a national crisis, most of the good folks in the West missed it while they were still at work.

I’m desperate for a Prime Minister to announce that he will speak to the nation, live, at 8:00 PM.  Pacific Time.  Followed by opposition speeches, and then commentary.  And then I’d sit back, look at the eastern sky, and watch the pretty pretty fireworks.
