Gov’t-owned BC Ferries ship sinks. Socialists blame rock.

imageIf this were a private corporation, there’d be no end of bashing by the media and other leftists in Canada, who would hold this up as “yet” another example of private corporations callously failing the citizenry with their single-hulled ships.  This time they’ll blame the rock that the ferry hit.

But in yet another stunning example of this government-owned “business” gone awry, citizens once again come to the rescue in the middle of the night and help save the day.  The single-hull state-owned ship was built in the Beatles Abbey Road era when Nixon was first elected President and student Jan Palach set himself on fire in Prague’s Wenceslas Square to protest the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the communist Soviet Union.

Passengers, crew rescued in B.C. ferry sinking

[…]“Anytime you have a major incident and you have no one hurt or killed in this type of thing, I think you always think it’s a miracle,” B.C. Ferries president David Hahn told Canadian Press.

“You always think, thank God, and you (are) thankful for the crew. That’s what they’re trained to do. They’ve done their job once again.”

[…] B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell was to travel to Prince Rupert with Mr. Hahn Wednesday to meet with the crew and passengers of the vessel.

In a statement, Mr. Campbell promised an “extensive review” of the accident to find out what went wrong.

“This was undoubtedly a harrowing experience and I am heartened to learn that all passengers and crew on the Queen of the North were able to get off the ship and be rescued without serious injuries,” Mr. Cambell

said, hailing both crew members, private vessel operators and Hartley Bay residents for their efforts.

“Once again, those whose lives depend on the sea and who live in coastal communities have come to the aid of those who need assistance,” he said. […]

(Meanwhile, those who depended on the government-owned business to safely sail them from point-A to point-B narrowly escaped with their lives.)
