Gov’t employees steal cash. No film at eleven.

$2 million pilfered by Sask. civil servants

The you’ve got to be kidding party and their massive government at work!  Or to put it another way, big socialist NDP governments at work stealing your money in myriad ways!

It’s funny because it’s true.

This story is from what I love calling “a li’ll bit o’ the Soviet Union right here in Canada”.

REGINA—Saskatchewan’s government says rogue civil servants have fleeced taxpayers out of nearly $2 million over the past three years.

Finance Minister Andrew Thomson said Tuesday there have been 43 incidents including two very public cases in the Community Resources and Environment Department accounting for $1.5 million.

Thomson stressed that most of the other incidents were on a much smaller scale and the employees involved had been dismissed, or in a few cases, disciplined.

And he promised major new government-wide initiatives to both combat fraud and to ensure there will be prompt public disclosure of any future incidents.

Well yeah, but they were government employees, not private company employees.  And, like, they were union.  So no need for a big huge news story at CBC.ca and the Toronto Star.  I mean banks made a profit for gosh sakes, and Mr. Harper is overweight.

Here’s another one today.  A cute, tiny li’ll story on CFRA radio‘s web site about something the liberal media has practically forgotten about, compared to Stephen Harper’s weight issues.  (Hat tip to John)

A former public servant, charged with bilking over $100 million of taxpayer money from the federal government, will be back in court in May.

The RCMP allege Paul Champagne used a complicated billing scheme involving the Department of National Defence and Hewlett-Packard to launder the money.

Two other men are charged with fraud. The RCMP describe Peter Mellon and Ignatius Manso as 3rd party vendors in the scam.

DND notified police, after they found billing irregularities in 2003.
