Gerry Nicholls to unions: Where were you when we needed you?

Good read by our friend Gerry Nicholls in the form of an op/ed published in the Vancouver Sun today.  As the former National Citizens Coalition front man, he spearheaded the Supreme Court fight against Chretien’s election gag laws (which the unions supported), ultimately losing the battle.

Gerry helps further expose the selfish and I dare say wholly unprincipled motives of the Left in this country.

Snippet:

“Union leaders finally see the dangers of gag laws”

… And although the NCC was a small “c” conservative organization, we did not see this fight as one pitting Right vs. Left.

That’s because Chretien’s gag law is blind to ideology; it silences all citizens and groups regardless of their political slant.

In the next federal election, for instance, pro-gay rights groups, environmental organizations, gun control activists, anti-poverty advocates will all be banned from effectively speaking out and promoting their agendas.

Yet, by and large, the left-wing in this country actually supported Chretien’s gag law.

Strangely, they did not see it as an infringement on free speech, but rather as a necessary “reform” to stop the “rich” and “well-heeled” from “buying elections.” …

Now, seven BC labor unions and the far-left B.C. Federation of Labour is taking BC Liberal Premier Gordon Campbell to court over his Bill 42, a vile election gag law and yet another liberal-left-led affront to freedom of speech in this country.

It’s a two-minute read.
