I sense a group hug coming on!
The Ottawa Citizen reports this news this morning. Students are in high dudgeon. They plan a protest. To hell with Darfur. This is serious.
A crackdown on rowdy, drunken behaviour planned for this weekend has rekindled a spat between police and bylaw officers and the student government of the University of Ottawa, which says such crackdowns unfairly target students.
[…] But Thibaud Henin, a University of Ottawa student politician with the Student Association of the Faculty Arts, says these campaigns, which can see people being fined as much as $380 for yelling on the street late at night, are unduly hard on the low-income student population.
“That’s huge,” he said of the $380 fines. “That’s a student’s rent for the month.”
[Insert additional “waah” sounds here] … [and here].
PTBC reader DC in YOW, who sent me this, added,
Enraged about not being able to be drunk and rowdy in the streets of Ottawa. Perhaps the students should stop drinking and take up crack. The City of Ottawa will go from being an adversary to a partner by ensuring that their crack paraphanalia is free and sterile.
Vote liberal.
Oh yes and… Bush lied kids died.
