Final Iraq constitutional vote in: 76% vote ‘yes’

Canadian media has been able to keep this very quiet amidst their favored daily reports of death and destruction and gloomy pictures of car bombs and burned-out buildings in Iraq so in case you didn’t hear, the U.S. and its several coalition partners overthrew the tyrannical regime of one of humanity’s most evil dictators, Saddam Hussein, caught Hussein who was hiding in a rat hole and threw him in jail and is now pending trial in Baghdad;  Iraqis including women successfully voted in their first democratic general elections in a lifetime; schools are being rebuilt after years of neglect; boys and girls are now attending school daily and not learning that life’s most important lesson is “death to America”;  water and power and other utilities and infrastructure are being rebuilt;  folks can watch television which now includes many private stations which broadcast actual news events;  hospitals are being rebuilt and are treating rather than torturing and raping and imprisoning citizens;  actual sane civilized law and order which doesn’t include official raping and murder and torture has returned;  scores of anti-terrorist police and military troops are being trained to preserve peace rather than torture citizens at Hussein’s pleasure and kill those who weren’t loyal to Hussein;  and last week, Iraqis voted in a constitutional referendum.  So in December they will vote in parliamentary elections.

I tell you all that in case you hadn’t heard about this Iraq “quagmire” which liberals seek to abandon in favor of returning Iraq to Saddam or other terrorists.

Of course the big news — the news that you would have really strained to read or hear about in the past week or so —was that the October 15 referendum vote resulted in a successful ‘YES’.  Today it was made official.  Find the story on page B36.

When questioned about extreme results, including the 99 percent “yes” vote in one Kurdish province, electoral officials said U.N. experts and Iraqi teams verified the results.

Of course liberal media can’t help but focus on the negative even when there is a glimmer of positive.  Here’s CNN.com’s headline, for instance:

Iraqi draft constitution passes, election officials say
Two U.S. Marines killed in Anbar province
