Countdown viewing notes June 1/05

Countdown with Mike Duffy viewing notes:

Note #1:
According to Ujjal Dosanjh, the reason he kept dangling the carrot of a cabinet or senate position within weeks or months in front of Gurmant Grewal in the now revealed transcripts—and yes he actually stated that in the transcripts—was because, you see, all politicians require “hope” that they can attain a position in cabinet, and he felt it was incumbent upon him to remind Grewal that there was “hope”—but only if he joined the Liberals!  Otherwise, see, no hope!

I hardly think Grewal needed that reminder as a long-time and very popular politician. He joined politics with hope in his heart and mind, as they all do.

But nice try Dosanjh.

Note #2:
The brilliant conservative columnist/pundit and U.S. presidential speechwriter David Frum said that the NDP can go ahead and quit being quite so smug about this Grewal vote-buying thing, and holding themselves out as the one angelic force in all of this—and that in fact they are one big giant institutionalized Belinda Stronach and Gurmant Grewal—they’re the biggest sell-out of all.  Further, that the reason we’re in such a political mess in this country is that they did indeed sell themselves out as a block on a discount basis to the corrupt ruling party.

(The NDP’s Joy McPhail, his Countdown talky opponent in Vancouver,  looked positively dumbfounded by David Frum’s uncanny wisdom.)

Note #4:
They then went to a huge spiel about the gay wedding in Ottawa of the gay couple from the TV show Amazing Race. The reporter from the Globe and Mail, Jane Taber, was positively giddy about it—having already spent time on this big story on last night’s Countdown show in no less a giddy fashion.  The couple were completely drunk.  Real pleasant. The reporter then asked them to explain why politicians should get the gay marriage bill passed, and they did.  Completely drunk.

That’s fair and balanced reporting in Canada.
