Canadian flags come down, separatist fervor grows

I’ve written several times about the superb job the Liberals have done and continue to do in their effort to change Canada into the liberal nation that they called “their Canada” in the last election.  Apparently the reference to “their Canada” was in juxtaposition to “Canada”.  I’m sure there are many Canadians who wish they’d known that in advance, rather than slowly finding out about their hidden agenda over time.

Thanks to the Liberals, we now have a Quebec, an Alberta, and now a Newfoundland which is sounding more and more like separatists.

In Newfoundland the Canadian flags continue to come down after Conservative Premier Danny Williams instructed them to come down on provincial government property. This was after confirming that Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin made mendacious, power-grabbing campaign promises to Newfoundland that he apparently has absolutely no intention of keeping now that he has suckered many of them into voting Liberal.

Private citizens joined the battle.  Now a Newfoundland company has stopped producing a line of patriotic Canadian flag swimwear.  The CEO of that company, Marie Johnson, is the great-great granddaughter of Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier, who was the original author of the French lyrics to “O Canada”.  She’s now changing her name to Johnson—her mother’s name—in protest.

“I’ve always identified more with my maternal side,” she said. “The good, Irish side. And I’ve always been riled up about the federal government raping Newfoundland, so this is an appropriate statement.

“I thought [my great-great grandfather] was neat growing up. I used to be extremely patriotic. And I’m still very proud of Canada. But the way it’s treating the province is shameful.”
