Canadian 2004 Christmas retail sales DOWN

Maybe if the liberal media and the liberal PC crowd could call it “Christmas” instead of “Happy Tree Festivus” or “Seasonal Greeting Time” or whatever they can think of besides “Christmas”, things would look up.

OTTAWA (Reuters) – The Canadian Christmas shopping season was surprisingly weak, according to Statistics Canada figures released on Monday, which heightened expectations the Bank of Canada will stand pat on interest rates for some time.

December retail sales fell by 1.4 percent, much more than the 0.1 percent fall analysts had expected, and following a drop in November of 0.1 percent.

Oh yeah and this:

Led by a big jump in autos, U.S. retail sales increased a seasonally adjusted 1.2 percent in December, the Commerce Department estimated today.
