The little girl is Lauren Grant, waving a Canadian flag to her father as he sails out of Halifax just today on board the destroyer HMCS Athabascan, on the way to the U.S. Gulf coast, loaded with supplies. Joining it are frigates HMCS Toronto, Ville de Quebec, HMCS Montreal, and the Canadian Coast Guard vessel Sir William Alexander.
But then I saw this frightening picture, begging the questions “Are they taking a BowFlex?”, and “Are there no height requirements?”, among others.
I’ve moved from shame, wondering where in tarnation my country was, yet again, to real pride as I watched the coverage of the ships leaving port this morning with our service men and women. Good luck team!
