For a taste of just exactly where this terror-arrest case is going to go, we need only listen carefully to the (taxpayer-paid?) legal defenders of the alleged terrorists.

That’s what one of the legal defenders of the alleged terrorists (I don’t doubt they’re terrorists but legally they’re “alleged” terrorists) said today in front of 800 reporters and TV cameras and microphones.
You see, it’s a conspiracy. A Bush conspiracy and a Harper conspiracy. By naming “Crawford, Texas” specifically (George W. Bush’s family home), the lawyer just made it personal. He revealed his inner anti-Bush.
And terrorism isn’t about instilling fear, dictionary definition notwithstanding —George Bush is, and Stephen Harper is. Possibly from their dens at home with the wife and kids watching TV.
Gary Batasar is the lawyer for the suspect who he emphasized (and even spelled for the media) was named “Steven Chand”. He forgot to tell us he has an alias with a much more “middle eastern” ring to it: Abdul Shakur. The National Post explains: “Steven Vikash Chand: A recent convert to Islam, Chand had begun to use name Abdul Shakur”.
But now it’s suddenly Steve again. Because, of course, he’s “just like us”.
I just heard him a second ago on TV (again —he apparently won’t shut up and won’t stop talking about the case, yet one of his big criticisms is that our Prime Minister had the gall to congratulate the police for their good work in this case) saying “This is not Guantanamo—this is Toronto Canada!” That was the ubiquitous anti-American jab from the lippy, we now know leftist, talkative, biased lawyer who won’t shut up when the media is within 800 miles of him and yet demands a fair trial and that his client not be tried in the media.
He also revealed that his client was accused of planning to behead the Prime Minister. He didn’t tell us which one—the last one or the current one, but I imagine that’s because it was the last one. And that his client and/or the extremist gang he hung out with was planning to storm the CBC and take it over. He said it like it wasn’t already taken over.
And he’d said before that “I believe the Prime Minister should keep out of the process and let justice take its course.” Unlike him, presumably.
UPDATE: I stand corrected, sort of. Apparently is was indeed Harper whom “Steve” was planning on offing.
Batasar said the synopsis of accusations provided by the Crown included allegations that the group wanted to “storm the Parliament buildings” and “take politicians hostage.” It also indicated that the CBC building in downtown Toronto was a potential target.
The synopsis also alleges Chand indicated “he would personally like to behead Stephen Harper,” Batasar said.
