Liberals always talk as though everyone in the room agrees with them. That’s why they say things like this in a supposedly serious newspaper in a supposedly not comedic “news report”. They assume everyone in Canada is just as liberal-left and anti-American as they are. And they want to re-assert over and over and over again anything that the Harper Conservatives are thinking about doing that happens to be the same as the American way as “American-style” —because they think that plays well to the anti-American Canadian liberal.
It also follows their anti-Conservative mantra perpetuated over and over by liberal-leftists, often through subtle innuendo, that electing a Harper Conservative government means turning Canada into an “American-style” country. And it’s a given that that’s very very bad.
They wait until another paragraph before admitting that Australia also has senate elections in exactly that way. Why then don’t they call this an “Australian-style Senate elections”? Because they think nobody cares about other countries that are doing things better than Canada, as long as the country isn’t “America”.
Crikies.
