Private corp Air Canada going with America’s Boeing for new jets

Glad to see private corporation Air Canada went with the American company Boeing rather than European consortium Airbus.  Liberals across the land and in Europe will be in full dudgeon this week.  Liberal Carolyn Parrish will be very very sad, and may well stomp on a picture of an American capitalist with her size-13 leather boot.

Air Canada has given the nod to Boeing rather than rival Airbus to upgrade its entire wide-body aircraft fleet in a deal that could reach $14 billion US.

ACE Aviation Holdings Inc., the airline’s holding company, announced Monday it has placed firm orders for 18 Boeing 777s and 14 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Air Canada did not reveal the value but Boeing said the firm order is worth $6 billion.

Adding options, the order deal could expand to 36 Boeing 777s and 60 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, a new aircraft model that will not be available for Air Canada until 2010.

The order signals a change for Air Canada, which had been adding Airbus wide-bodies and operates one of the world’s largest Airbus fleets.
