ABCNews.com in hideous display of anti-Bush/anti-American obfuscation

NOTE: My math has been corrected!

Their headline touts “O, Canada! More Americans Heading North”—but their own facts—which they ignore in favor of totally twisting the facts—belie the story, proving once again that this is a liberal media with an agenda.  And you can’t trust a news outfit that is driving a liberal-left agenda.

The story is about how the number of Americans moving to Canada is way up recently—owing, they insinuate and even openly state as fact, to the fact that all those America-leavers are against Bush and and Iraq war.  They scientifically figured this out by finding two or three who sort of said that, and extrapolate that that’s the main reason for all of them leaving.  So if I understand liberals correctly, “It’s a consensus!”)

They say:

The hideous ABC story includes this photo of Americans finally happily escaping (see their smiles?) that horrible Bush-led America for the land of that big Canadian flag …which in actual fact hardly anybody in Canada ever flies, ever.

It may seem like a quiet country where not much happens besides ice hockey, curling and beer drinking. But our neighbor to the north is proving to be quite the draw for thousands of disgruntled Americans.

…“They’re coming because many of them don’t like the politics, the Iraq War and the security situation in the U.S. By comparison, Canada is a tension-free place. People feel safer.” [says an “expert”]

One recent immigrant is Tom Kertes, a 34-year-old labor organizer who moved from Seattle to Toronto in April.

Kertes attributes his motivation to President Bush’s opposition to gay marriage

[Joel notes: Outrageous lie.  In most every vote or referendum on the issue in every state, the American public has repeatedly voted down allowing gay marriage—even in über-liberal California and Oregon]

, and the tactics employed during the war on terror since 9/11.

“I wanted a country that respected my human rights and the rights of others,” he says. “We joked about it after Bush won re-election, but it took us a while to go through the application.”

Kertes, who moved with his partner, is happy in his new home. “Canada is a really nice country. My mother is thinking about it. My stepfather has diabetes and has health issues. So, he’d be taken care of for free if he moved up here.” …

Their claim is that 10,900 Americans moved to Canada last year—double what it was in 2000.  But, they allow:

Of course, those numbers are still outweighed by the number of Canadians going the other way. Yet, that imbalance is shrinking. Last year, 23,913 Canadians moved to the United States, a significant decrease from 29,930 in 2005.

Well let’s do the math they are too biased and agenda-driven to do for you:

10,900 Americans moving north to Canada represents roughly .0036 percent of their nation.  That’s POINT ZERO ZERO THREE SIX percent.

29,913 Canadians moving to the U.S.A. last year represents .1 percent of our population—a full tenth of a percentage point of our population.

In other words, the number of Canadians moving to the USA is proportionately nearly 30 times the number of Americans moving here.

They don’t bother to speculate on why THAT is.

They also leave out this tidbit:

There were 1,266,264 immigrants into the USA who were granted legal residence in 2006, up from 601,516 in 1987, 849,807 in 2000, and 1,122,373 in 2005.  (To say nothing of the apparently countless illegal immigrants).
