A chicken in every pot, and a shiny trinket for every liberal

I was writing a Joel’s NewsQuips, um, quip, and after typing up the list of governments and government departments that “sponsored” the government-sponsored Gemini Award self-gratification, aggrandizement, and shiny trinket liberalfest on Sunday, I decided to find out just what awards they were giving out.  There just aren’t that many Canadian-made TV and movies and so on, so how many awards could there be?

Answer:  pretty much one award for every single show, and nearly every person involved in every single show.  I imagine just about everybody working in Canadian TV and movies was nominated for something, or at least associated with a show that was.  Of course most every single Canadian show is sponsored by one, two, three, or more governments or departments with cash and/or special tax breaks (image!), and then often broadcast on state-run, state-owned media. Here are the categories—

=====  Here’s what I wrote in my Joel’s NewsQuips, um, quip =====

Shiny trinkets were handed out to people. The “Gemini Awards”—Canada’s lame answer to the American liberals’ “Emmys” festival of liberalism—were doled out last night. Nobody noticed. Now that it has been reported, nobody cares. … It was broadcast on the largely unwatched state-run media, the CBC, and hosted by the host of their liberalism-booster show “The Hour”, George Stroumboulopoulos. I don’t know who won what trinket, and I don’t care. The show was sponsored by, among others:
Telefilm Canada (100% state-owned left-wing propaganda outfit, as I see it).
Canadian Television Fund (a fund that the state forces cable and satellite operators to fund, with tons of cash then going to the CBC).
CBC (left-wing state-run and state-owned media).
City of Regina (that’s a city government of a city in Saskatchewan, or what I like to call a li’l bit of the old Soviet Union right here in Canada).
SaskFilm (a government (see above) funding agency that pretends it’s totally separate from the government like most government agencies do).
Canadian Heritage (that’s another federal government department. Telefilm Canada, the CBC, and now this? They tricked ya!)
National Film Board (100% state-owned, left-wing propaganda outfit, as I see it. Telefilm Canada, the CBC, Canadian heritage, city government, provincial government, and now this? Tricked ya again!).
