As a normal taxpaying Canadian, you might think the state-owned media, the CBC, would be on this today, but sadly the CBC’s Newsworld channel is strictly the Obama Is Love channel today, in deference to the promised coming of the liberals’ Messiah, Barack Hussein Obama. There is utterly no other news in all the world today, if I understand correctly from my CBC viewing so far.
Naturally, as my bets have been almost sure money-makers since I started this series of bets, I’d probably have won this one anyway. The CBC, for those 54 of you who do watch it know, is usually the economy freak-out, FEAR MONGERING, economic talk-down and trash-talking capitalism is dead! and recession-promotion channel, particularly during the socialism-reliant CBC’s oxymoronic (emphasis on “moronic”) “YOUR BUSINESS” segments, in which they report virtually every, single, solitary, pretty much no exceptions made, doom ‘n gloom news of every company that is losing money or laying people off. (They will continue this horror show until they see an upward change, for which they will then credit the magic of Barack Obama).
Rona, one of Canada’s leading retailers, made a PROFIT in the last quarter of $25.7-million, or 22 cents a share. For the year they made $160.2-million, or $1.37 a share. Sales increased by 2 per cent to $4.89-billion from a year earlier.
Damn but that, like dozens of other reports just like them, doesn’t fit the CBC’s talking points and storyline!
Nonetheless, the non-state-owned media, including the Globe and Mail, reported today:
Given the retail environment, Rona’s numbers were slightly better than expected, analyst Perry Caicco said in a note to clients. Sales for the most recent quarter were up 3.5 per cent to $1.2-billion from $1.09-billion a year earlier.
“Same store sales were relatively strong” – down only 1.4 per cent, better than the projected drop of 4 per cent, Mr. Caicco wrote.
UPDATE (11:25 AM PT):
They’ve interrupted their on-air sex with Obama coverage only to report on what I think must be the ultimate orgasmic CBC Eureka moment. What I think they’ve been building up to all these many months. Victory!:
Oh and they’ve also reported on Barack Obama trinket sales in Ottawa, as part of their “YOUR BUSINESS” roundup of all the important business news, which of course excludes the news about Rona and most everything else.
