Liberals in Canada will be astounded that China is about to enact a new law clamping down on killing unborn baby girls, and making it illegal. Canadian liberals will counter that they should have every right to choose to kill girl babies. It’s about “choice”, as I understand it.
In liberal Canada, there are no laws against any kind of abortion for any reason at all whatsoever, at any time in any pregnancy, even right up to the time of delivery, all paid for by taxpayers, in state-run hospitals. Canadian women can choose to abort their pregnancy if the baby is a girl, or if it’s a boy—it simply doesn’t matter what the reason is. I wonder if they do abort girls more than boys. We could always check the hospital garbage I guess. Or do they throw the dead babies into a furnace?
China to make sex-selective abortions a crime
China is to make abortion on the basis of sex a crime in a bid to redress the imbalance between newborn boys and girls that has arisen as a result of the their one-child policy.
Government figures show 119 boys are born in the world’s most populous country for every 100 girls and Beijing has now set a goal of reversing the imbalance by 2010.
China implemented the one-child policy in the early 1980s to curb its massive population but the restrictions have bolstered a traditional preference for baby boys.
Sex-selective abortion is already banned but technologies such as ultrasound have made it easier to know a baby’s gender in advance, increasing the chances for aborting girls. […]
