Embattled Liberal Party leadership contender Michael Ignatieff held a press conference moments ago which further mucked-up his political life and all Liberals. Then he was rushed off the stage by handlers as things clearly got too confusing and hot for him. After broadcasting it live, the liberals’ media pretended it didn’t happen.
He tried to explain away his Israel is a war criminal remark made over the weekend on the state-run media by saying that hey, after all, “Human Rights Watch” and “Amnesty International” both said Israel is a war criminal.
And, um, therefore, um, as a guy who people should respect as very possibly a future Prime Minister of Canada, that’s a solid basis upon which to call a nation a war criminal, um, you see. Doing a Michael Moore impression won’t compromise Canada’s standing in the world at all. (I’m reading into it the way liberals do).
Questions: Ignatieff hangs his just-purchased yarmulka on the central core ideas that “Human Rights Watch” and “Amnesty International” endorses this “Israel is a war criminal” polemic. Who the heck made “Human Rights Watch” or “Amnesty International” the international court of all-get-out? Who the heck are they?
Answers: They’re a couple of left-wing groups that constantly question America’s actions and decisions in the world and routinely question or imply that “President George Bush is a war criminal” —a la Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan and other fringe leftists and nutbars.
Then he said he’s accepting an invitation from an unnamed Jewish fellow to go to Israel to chat with the Israelis and find out for himself if those people are “war criminals”. He said he’s doing that because he’s such a responsible guy. Um, now that he’s already decided that they’re “war criminals”.
So in other words, he didn’t know yet if Israel was a war criminal, even though he already said they are war criminals on the state-run media. And by the way, who the heck is Michael Ignatieff to decide if a country is a war criminal or not? Maybe he should travel with Svend Robinson.
Oh my. Those liberals do think highly of themselves don’t they?
