I liked the Toronto Sun editorial this morning about the leftists who are so-called running Toronto and Ontario and how they’re spinning the stats to get re-elected rather than, well, running Toronto and Ontario.
Playing with stats while bullets fly
[…] But let’s be clear. The good guys are losing. You can tell by the way the police are starting to measure “success”—by playing with statistics.
For example, lately they have been comparing this year’s gun mayhem to the record highs of last year—year of the notorious “Summer of the Gun.”
[…] Will municipal and provincial politicians—both facing re-election—declare “victory” if Toronto records a few less gun murders than last year’s record high of 52?
If so, we’re here to tell them such talk is defeatist nonsense.
Toronto’s gun problem isn’t some complex social issue that is beyond the power of Mayor David Miller, Premier Dalton McGuinty, and their administrations to address.
[…] If we don’t deal with this now, there will be a steady escalation of violence to the point where random gunfire, street executions, the intimidation of entire neighbourhoods and the murder of innocents will simply become part of the accepted “background noise” of city life.
That’s unacceptable. It would also be unforgivable. We must fight back.
How? We can start by breaking the NDP’s stranglehold on city council, with its “hug a thug” mentality toward crime, in the November municipal election.
The you’ve got to be kidding party is still taken seriously by some in Canada, and quitting that should be a no-brainer.
