Accused cop killer complains about jail conditions in Laval, Que., court
LAVAL, Que. (CP) – A man accused of killing a police officer last December complained about his detention during a brief court appearance.
Francois Pepin, 40, was visibly upset when he entered the Laval courtroom Wednesday.
Pepin has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 25-year-old Const. Valerie Gignac.
After getting the nod from his lawyer, Pepin launched into a loud outburst, complaining that his jail conditions at a detention center in nearby St-Jerome were “unlivable.”
“Since Saturday I have been kept in a small cell, isolated, for no reason,” Pepin shouted at the judge.
He also complained about a fellow inmate who snored, saying it prevented him from sleeping.
