They learned nothing from their Adscam sponsorship corruption years. Or are they over? Maybe not.
One wily reader (”[Storm.Shadow]”) just sent me this astute observation, regarding this article at CTV.ca:

… Towards the bottom of the article we find this:
Of about $83 million spent last year by the federal Office of Indian Residential Schools Resolution, $17 million—20 per cent—was used to resolve 593 claims. The rest paid for government lawyers, staff salaries, research fees and other administrative costs.
A little math:
Money actually paid out:
$17M for 593 Claims, an average of $28,668/Claim
Money blown away by this ridiculous government we have:
$66M for 593 Claims, an average of $111,299/Claim
All of this to come out with another $2B buy out. I wonder if that comes with another $7.7B in administration costs (Based on previous performance).
If harm was done no doubt something needs to be done…but come on! Focus on the problem and direct every penny of that towards finding a lasting solution.
Over the past 10 years, taxpayers have spent some $100 BILLION on various native Canadian programs. Nearly $10 BILLION per year.
It’s working out real well, isn’t it?
Private property rights alone would go a long way to helping our native Canadians help themselves.
