This Senatorial verbiage struck me as serendipitous vindication for the point of view expressed in my first blog entry of today, in which I said liberals worship the state—the government—confusing it for what is actually sacred.
The federal government has never used the notwithstanding clause, the escape hatch that allows it to override the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
More than one senator shot back that the charter is not a sacred document.
“You seem to worship at the altar of the charter. I do not,” said Tory Senator Anne Cools.
Unfortunately, the rest of the article, “Cotler tells Senate hearings that same-sex marriage is a done deal”, was about how Canada’s Liberal Party and its minister of gay justice, Irwin Cotler, was explaining that no matter what the Senate says—no matter how they vote, he was going to make sure gay marriage happened in Canada—no matter what.
Liberals are as forceful about gay marriage and liberalism and abortion as conservative Republican President George W. Bush is about protecting American families and life and defeating terrorism and the liberals’ abject culture of death.
