Vancouver Sun columnist Barbara Yaffe’s column yesterday quoted Anthony Oluwatoyin and his recent column posted here—unfortunately, she called him Andrew Oluwatoyin. I thought it was his last name that was the toughy.
Anthony and I exchanged chuckles about that, and he told me he could, but won’t, be miffed like a diva about it.
Anthony Oluwatoyin pens a column today about white on white racism as per Michael Moore. That kind of idiocy is bad enough, but Anthony fears the backlash which could very well be launched—not against the likes of Michael Moore—but against him.
And also, Anthony’s column has, so far, the longest title for a column in these pages: “The people who enjoy bashing white folks are not the people who will pay the price for it”.
Here’s a snippet:

[…] My fear is that there’s going to be a backlash. But the people stirring up this new hate, people like Michael Moore and Howard Dean, are themselves white. Those who will pay the price are not.
[…] Hate is hate. But I am black. White liberals will simply not hear of me defending them. I have been told that what I call white-bashing is harmless. I have been told that I am jumping to conclusions in asserting that white-bashing rhetoric leads to real live white-bashing.
On the other hand, have you ever met a white liberal who has ever questioned the harmful cost of black stereotypes to black people? Indeed, even well-informed, balanced and by no means skewed criticism of black people, liberals insist, could make blacks vulnerable to attack. That is why there is so much political correctness in cross-ethnic discourse. […]
