The Liberals are very upbeat about winning an election, should one spontaneously pop-up in the coming days or weeks.
A simple staff e-mail from Paul Martin’s top aide made it clear the nation’s highest political office is starting to feel like an election war room.
The message this week from prime ministerial chief of staff Tim Murphy was simple: Don’t show panic – everything we do now will reflect on us.
“Don’t panic? You want us not to panic and so you remind us we shouldn’t be panicking,” said one Liberal who saw Murphy’s e-mail.
“It sounds like the captain of the Titanic saying, ‘Don’t worry. We’re going to pull through this.’ “
I guess that nameless “one Liberal” doesn’t love their chances. Maybe he’ll jump ship and join another party.
