Someone sent me a link this morning to check out—OK it was Charles Adler (I tried not to name-drop but I have a policy of “hat-tipping” my leads, so here’s your hat tip, Charles!).
It was a good read—the kind I’ve encountered quite a few times but each time it’s interesting. This one was a discussion forum post on the FreeRepublic discussion forums (American conservative powerhouse of a forum—one of the biggest in the world). A member posted a transcript of a Rush Limbaugh radio show caller’s chat with Rush.
Another member named “Twinkie” (?!) provided this reply (it was reply #30), which made my day. It speaks to what I always call the Canadian liberals’ “Fabian socialism” in my writings—in fact I may just have to ask Twinkie if I can use it for my official definition.
Twinkie wrote (reply number 30):
“No, actually what seems to happen to people in general is that it’s human nature to be like the frog which is placed in the pot of cold water on the stove. As the water is gradually heated, the frog becomes slowly adjusted to it in increments and will stay until he just dies. If you throw a frog directly into a pot of boiling water, he would jump out. We are already acclimated to an amount of taxation that would have gagged our forefathers and moved them to revolution. Of course, we like more services and conveniences now and have more technology available for better roads and other facilities for which we have to pay taxes.”
