The good Canadian Coalition for Democracies is on it.
Considering how intent on researching, for months and months on end, inside and out, up and down, all of the trumped-up allegations of “torture” perpetrated by Americans and Canadians, as advanced by those trustworthy and objective albeit rabidly anti-Bush and anti-America Canadians and Americans, I’m surprised the state-run media CBC, and liberalvision CTV both fail to recognize the torture allegations against China’s soon-to-be-visiting “Commerce Minister”, and have absolutely nothing in their news reports about this impending visit.
(And as an aside, Joel much amused at expression “China’s Commerce Minister”. A “Commerce Minister” from a communist state. Funny! Kinda like the “Business Report” on state-run CBC Newsworld …starring Jeannie Lee. Wha da matta? Liberals constantly point out via hate mails to me, with robust indignance, the supposed incongruity of a conservative like me daring to have the shear audacity to call a web site “ProudToBeCanadian”, which they think should be reserved for liberals or sundry leftist interests. Then they tell me to leave Canada, often citing Texas as a good destination for me, my family, and “the likes of me”.)
Anyway, according to a report in the China-centric Epoch Times yesterday:
…Bo was scheduled to visit Canada along with current Chinese leader Hu Jintao in 2005 when Paul Martin was prime minister. However, after protests over Bo’s planned visit, he was notably absent when the delegation arrived.
In ten other countries, Bo has been served with lawsuits for torture, genocide, and crimes against humanity against Falun Gong believers.
In April 2004, Bo was sued for crimes against humanity and torture while on a visit to Washington, D.C.
Upon realizing he had been served with court papers, Bo threw the papers to the ground and his entourage physically attacked the process server, the process server said.
Bo refused to enter a defense in the case and the U.S. court has since issued a default judgment against him.
Two months after Bo was served the lawsuit in the U.S., nine Falun Gong practitioners travelled to South Africa to protest the alleged crimes committed by Bo and another Chinese official, Zeng Qinghong, who were both visiting South Africa, and to file a lawsuit.
On June 28, en route from Johannesburg Airport, a gunman with an assault rifle shot at the practitioners’ vehicle, hospitalizing the driver. After disabling the car, the would-be assassin made no attempt at robbery and immediately fled the scene. The practitioners believed the gunman to be hired.
Xun Li, president of the Falun Dafa Association of Canada, says his group does not oppose Canada having relations with China, but “Canada must not open doors to criminals.”
“Allowing such officials [in]to Canada would send a message that Canada condones genocide and violations of fundamental human rights,” Li said.

Statement on the visit to Canada by China’s Commerce Minister Bo Xilai
For Immediate Release
May 24, 2007Ottawa, Canada – The Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD) is concerned about the entry into Canada of China’s Commerce Minister, Bo Xilai on Monday May 28th, 2007. There are serious allegations about Bo Xilai regarding torture and crimes against humanity. These concerns have been brought to the attention of Canadian government officials, the RCMP and the Department of Justice’s Interdepartmental Operations Group of Canada’s Crimes Against Humanity & War Crimes Program.
As a global leader and supporter of international law, including laws dealing with crimes against humanity and torture, Canada has an important role to play in ensuring that those credibly accused of such crimes be brought before the appropriate legal bodies to face justice.
CCD notes that Prime Minister Harper has acted with conviction and compassion when it comes to respecting human rights.
We trust that the Prime Minister will maintain his record by keeping Bo Xilai out of Canada, and by supporting the efforts of victims and their family members, together with those of reputable human rights organizations, to see that justice is done.
