Pelletier called Bedard a “pitiful” single mother

Here’s a quote from a column I wrote about this sordid Liberal Party affair, back in March 2004 (”Women: Be Liberal or Be Fired”).

Pelletier called Bedard a “pitiful” single mother seeking publicity. “She want to take advantage of the situation”, he sniffed to La Presse.

“I don’t want to be mean, but this is a poor woman in a pitiful state, a woman with no husband that I know of. She’s feeling the pressure of being a single mother with financial responsibilities. Basically, I find it pitiful.”

But that’s jumping ahead.  Today, our esteemed Liberal-appointed federal courts decided that Jean Pelletier, who was fired from the state-run VIA RAIL in utter embarrassment by the then new Prime Minister Paul (“I dint know nuttin”) Martin to pretend he cared about the Adscam sponsorship corruption scandal, will be re-installed as Chairman of the socialist Soviet-style choo-choo company which competes against private citizens and their enterprising ways.

Court overturns firing of Via Rail chair Jean Pelletier

A Federal Court judge has reinstated Jean Pelletier as chairman of Via Rail, saying the government was unfair in the way it fired him in March 2004.

Justice Simon Noel said Pelletier – a Jean Chretien loyalist who was fired in connection with the sponsorship scandal – deserved to know why has was dismissed and should have been given a chance to respond.

The judge set aside the firing order and referred the whole matter back to the federal cabinet.

Pelletier was chief of staff to Chretien for 1993 to 2001 and was appointed to a five-year term as chairman of Via in 2001.

He was fired after Olympic medalist Myriam Bedard wrote to Prime Minister Paul Martin in February 2004 complaining she had been forced to resign from a Via job.

An arbitrator’s report later found Bedard quit voluntarily, but Pelletier had already been fired.

Here’s some more of what I wrote in my March 2004 column, which I humbly suggest stands up pretty well as a good two-minute read:

Liberals and those on the left often herald themselves as the architect and sole proprietor of the concept of “equality for women” and all that is tolerant and fair and equal, especially when it comes to women and their workplace tribulations. As a result, women are notoriously more liberal/Democrat and many women obediently vote that way in elections.

Via Rail, a Canadian government owned and operated (and of course liberally subsidized) passenger rail outfit that competes with private Canadian transportation companies, just fired its president, Jean Pelletier.

More accurately, since it is government-owned and they don’t even pretend to operate at arm’s length, it was Canada’s current liberal Prime Minister, Paul Martin, who ordered him fired. The previous liberal Prime Minister, Jean ChrÃ
