By now, the attentive public everywhere has learned about the scam called Climategate despite the mainstream media’s reluctance to prominently report it.
This is about the manipulating of science, fudging of data, excluding the work of skeptical scientists and preventing peer-reviewed journals to publish dissenting views as well as trashing historical temperature records and e-mail evidence from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit in the United Kingdom.
This scam is likely the tip of the rot inside the UN-based International Panel on Climate Change that has driven the politics of man-made global warming.
What the scam at the CRU reveals is how individuals, corrupted by the lure of money and influence, subscribed to the UN-based scheme for the largest global tax grab and revenue transfer – some version of global carbon tax – by raising false alarms about impending planetary doom in the name of science.
Learning about how corrupt the UN is does not come as any surprise. This is the organization that gave us, as just one recent example, the oil-for-food scandal in Iraq – a scandal worthy of the tyrant Saddam Hussein building domes of pleasure for his use while Iraqi children perished.
The UN cannot help itself, given the perversity of its membership that makes for the reverse-Midas touch – turning to lead whatever it handles.
But the bigger question that begs itself to explain Climategate is how did the public in the democratic West – hence elected governments – succumb to the arguments of man-made global warming that might at best be referred to as unsettled science.
In part, the answer is, as C.P. Snow wrote, in the widening, and likely unbridgeable, gap that has arisen between the two cultures – humanities and science – in the West.
Snow, an Englishman, was a physicist and novelist and at home in both cultures. Snow belonged to the generation of scientists in the 1920s, which was a period he referred to in The Physicists ‘as the golden age of natural philosophy.’
In the 1959 Rede Lecture, later published as The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution, Snow talked about the growing incomprehensibility between the men and women of science and their counterpart in the world of letters.
Snow observed that ‘the great edifice of modern physics goes up, and the majority of the cleverest people in the western world have about as much insight into it as their neolithic ancestors would have.’
The marvel of scientific achievements surrounds the public, but few comprehend how this came about. Instead there is awe – a sense of mystery increasingly hangs over science – and it is only a matter of time, given human nature, for the public to take science as authoritatively as it once took religion in the west.
Human nature is flawed, power corrupts and just as corrupt individuals are found in religious institutions, so too they are found in scientific establishments.
Climategate has exposed the fraudulent science of man-made global warming.
But since the UN and big governments are deeply invested in this hoax and the public remains awestruck with the mystique of science,in Copenhagen in the coming week, there will be more alarms sounded to obscure the scam pushed by the International Panel on Climate Change.
