So this is what he meant by “change”! The omnipotent agent of change, The Great Obama, has changed his mind now that his erstwhile inherent “truthiness” is coming under an infinitesimal bit of scrutiny. (Imagine if the liberals’ media actually asked him any hard questions at all, ever!)
I recently blogged about a CTV story which contended that liberal Democrat presidential contender Barack Obama was campaigning in Ohio lambasting the NAFTA treaty, when on the sly, his campaign officials were winking and nodding to Canadian officials saying something like Don’t worry!—it’s all just politics—we don’t really mean it!
I said it should be huge news. I asked where the liberals’ media was on this, and where in tarnation the McCain campaign was.
Well it still isn’t a huge story, but at least Hillary and her campaign is taking notice of the CTV story and have brought it up, and the media is thus forced to at least reluctantly acknowledge it. (This is an excellent example of why we need Hillary in the race. The media and even the McCain campaign appears so inept that they can’t even bring it up, and so we have to rely on Hillary. Thanks Hill.)
At first, The Great Obama and his campaign of greatness denied any such meeting even took place. Absolutely denied it. Didn’t happen. Guaranteed.
Then over the weekend, the Associated Press came up with a memo written by Canadian officials indicating that Obama’s peeps did meet with them—if only casually—and told the Canucks almost exactly what the CTV had reported. [CTV follows story here]
So The Great Obama had employed a sacred re-write of his esteemed wordage of seemingly deceptive denial (of holy greatness), and admitted that the meeting did take place. But through his officials, he fumbled and tried to inform us that what the memo says is bunkum. And besides, the main thing or even the only thing that is important here is that these nudge-nudge wink-winks should be confidential! (Joel emits snicker of irreverence to his un-holy, ungodly obfuscation and his overall effort at trying to change the subject.)
The Associated Press explains that the memo said:
“…Noting anxiety among many U.S. domestic audiences about the U.S. economic outlook, Goolsbee
[the Obama disciple]
candidly acknowledged the protectionist sentiment that has emerged, particularly in the Midwest, during the primary campaign.”
It went on: “He cautioned that this messaging should not be taken out of context and should be viewed as more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans…”
In other words, wink wink, nudge nudge. Or as I asked in my original blog entry, “Playing Ohio voters for fools”? The answer appears to be yes.
Interestingly (or should I say “very interesting!” -ly?), the state-owned, state-run CBC Newsworld anchor Nancy Wilson dutifully chose to 
characterize it just now in her “news” cast as Obama does—as possible Harper government “meddling” in the U.S. campaign,
much as
exactly as the leader of the you’ve got to be kidding party, Jack (“ass”) Layton, and the Obama campaign itself, has
spun it
insisted. This “meddling” accusation is apparently formed on the basis that these nudge-nudge, wink-wink conversations are supposed to be confidential (as nudge-nudge, wink-winks usually are). Apparently the left is opposed to that whole “open and accountable government” thing. And honesty. Duly noted.
Also noted is that it’s not “so-called” meddling—as the CBC and Nancy Wilson often call the war on terror (i.e., “the so-called war on terror”). Apparently the CBC decides what’s what for us, then informs us in a “newsy” format such that we don’t have to actually think on our own. Thank God for that billion-plus dollars per year that we as taxpayers throw at them to inform us to think properly like that.

Here’s my transcription of how CBC news anchor Nancy Wilson introduced the story:
”…The Harper government is being accused of MEDDLING in the race! This after a staff member in the Canadian consulate said an Obama adviser told HIM, Canada shouldn’t take Obama’s anti-NAFTA rhetoric TOO SERIOUSLY. The CBC’s James Fitz-Morris has the latest from Ottawa.”
She then passed it to a CBC reporter, who appeared to me to take Obama’s side, and repeated the obfuscation about these chats supposedly being “confidential”, rather than on the bigger issue, which is that (A) Obama changed his story and his people did in fact meet with Canadian staff; and (B) that it appears to sensible folks like me that the Obama operative did indeed try to nudge-nudge, wink-wink the Canadian official, which in turn implies that Obama’s full of it.
