Canada’s state-owned media, the CBC, is to Al-Jazeera, as the far-left Huffington Post is to the state-owned CBC.
As several of the far-left Huffington Post bloggers and officials eventually become CBC guest experts on politics, some of the liberals’ CBC staff move to the Arab Al-Jazeera news outfit. (Others bypass that step and are appointed by liberals to be leader of all the land, as Governor General Michaelle Jean and Adrienne Clarkson were, but at this rate, Al-Jazeera employment may well become the deciding prerequisite).
For you bin (and al) counters, Al-Jazeera was created during the Clinton era by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. The Chairman of Al Jazeera is Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani, a distant cousin of Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. So you can see how the switch from CBC could be so easy.
You thought pronouncing Michaelle Jean was hard? Watch for a future Governor General named Fatimah bint Tariq bin Khalid Al-Fulan.

Yet another former CBCer at Al-Jazeera
Former CBC producer and journalist Sue Phillips is now the network director of the international broadcaster Al Jazeera.
Phillips, 54, currently lives in west London with her son Charles, 19, and her daughter Melissa, 23. She moves to Doha to take up her now role this month.
Former CBC News head Tony Burman and host Avi Lewis both have positions with Al Jazeera.
(CBC Radio Vancouver’s Don Pennington has moved to Doha as well, following a surprise retirement party, although no announcement has been made about his plans there.)
Phillips joined the London bureau of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a bilingual receptionist and became fascinated with the CBC French network and broadcasting. Within six months a researcher’s job came up and she went on to work in radio with CBC for another eight years.

CBC Newsworld news anchor Brendan Connor made the move to Al-Jazeera in 2006, and got promoted to sports reporter for the Arab news and opinion media company. Far-leftist anti-American blowhard and now, mercifully, a former CBC star, Avi Lewis (who sounds very much like a communist to me) made the move to Al-Jazeera earlier this year; the CBC’s former editor-in-chief Tony Burman also ditched the state-run media this month for the friendly (if you’re not American) environs of Al-Jazeera (see my recent blog entry).
Don’t worry: there’s no shortage of far-leftists in Canada being pumped out of the liberals’ journalism (and bilingual secretarial) schools and other academia divisions to fill the gaps left by the CBC movers, and assume their appointments to the state-owned, state-run CBC, and provide Canadians with the much-needed liberal-left and far-left world view.
