PTBC reader “lowrider” nominated this winner, which sort of amounts to the nation of Sweden. It’s from an article I quoted in my blog entry earlier today. Read it for context.
“If you feel no responsibility for taxpayer money
I guess you would be prepared to do something like that”
—The spot-on Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, of the so-called “socialist” Sweden, yesterday, explaining that unlike in the United States and Canada, the Swedish government has no interest in bailing out the auto company SAAB.
The Swedish Enterprise and Energy Minister Maud Olofsson added: “We are not prepared to risk the taxpayers’ money … This is not a game of Monopoly.”
They sound like the capitalists. Are we to their left now?
Our Award nominator, lowrider, added in his blog comment: ““Something like that” could also mean subsidizing the CBC, funding special interest groups, special breaks for Bombardier…. ”
EXTRA SYMBOLISM: Here’s a photo of the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, notably sitting quite far to the RIGHT of President George Bush. Imagine how far to the right of President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper he’d be; to say nothing of the fact that he’d be so far to the right of Ignatieff and Layton that he’d be right out of the picture and sitting outside on the street somewhere. And the Swedes are the socialists.
