The only seat not filled today, in the inaugural Question Period of the new Conservative government, was that owned by the taxpayers who had kindly reserved it for a Liberal named Paul Martin, Member of Parliament, whom they, the taxpayers, are paying to occupy that seat.
Nonetheless, the entire left-wing pack in the House of Commons leveled entirely predictable talking (and yelling)-point questions—citing, as they often do, such brilliant liberal-leftist sources of anti-conservative fodder as the Toronto Star as credible sources of “reports” for which they honestly think the Conservative members and ministers should answer. Of course that hideous bit of humour, delivered by Liberal MP John McCallum, former Revenue minister, was met by a round of laughter (ouch to the Toronto Star!) and a sound mocking.
Conservatives all, without exception, handled all of the questions with aplomb. Of course it’s rather easy to do so when you stand on principle and integrity and have solid ideas that are by their very nature easy to defend.
The first Question Period is over, and debate continues.
