Headlines in news today: Coolest April in 114 years. Oh sorry—NO headlines in news today.

This news of a cool April is all over the news.  By which I mean thrown onto the floors of newsrooms around the world.

UNITED STATES
Climate Summary
April 2008

The average temperature in April 2008 was 51.0 F. This was -1.0 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 29th coolest April in 114 years. The temperature trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit per decade.

2.39 inches of precipitation fell in April. This was -0.04 inches less than the 1901-2000 average, the 54th driest such month on record. The precipitation trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.01 inches per decade.

Hey maybe all those Priuses and my buying “carbon credits” for my car are finally kicking in!

You won’t read about this anywhere because it wasn’t the warmest April in recent times.  We only read about “man-made global warming” when it’s a big ole negative thing.  If April was .0002 degrees warmer, it would be all over the news. A five-part “Passionate Eye” report on CBC would follow.  The “Green Guru” would be interviewed for no particular reason (yes, some university professors too) for ingenious comments.

By the way, no comments will be allowed for this blog entry because we don’t need to hear from the April was cooler “deniers”… the science is settled.  The debate: over.
