State-owned CBC always (somewhat ironically, and possibly in full denial mode) refers to communist and other socialist and progressive countries’ state-owned TV networks as “state television”, as if that’s somehow different than what the CBC is. So that’s fun. And they did that today in their covering of the sinking of the (state-owned) Venezuelan offshore natural gas platform, at taxpayers’ expense.
Don’t get me wrong: it is “state television”, which is of course why I always call the CBC “state television”. Surely they would agree! I mean they and their liberal-leftist overseers insist on it not being “privatized”, such that it remains as “state television”. I just wish the CBC would always refer to itself as “state television”, in exactly the same way they refer to North Korea’s “state television” (which it is), and Cuba’s “state television” (which it is), and Iran’s “state television” (which it is), and Venezuela’s “state television” (yadda).
In this article about socialist dictators Hugo Chavez’s Venezuelan state TV, they not only refer to its “state television”, but to the “state energy”, um, “company”, Petroleos de Venezuela SA. So it’s like a progressive, socialist, communist, two-fer.
I think the CBC and everyone else should refer to our schools and universities as “state-run schools” and “state-run universities” too. And to “state-owned, state-run VIA RAIL”. And to all those state-owned film development “companies”. And all those provincial liquor stores, and the postal service, and the lottery “corporations” and ferry “corporations” and electricity “corporations” and so many other “corporations” which, like the Canadian Broadcasting “Corporation”, are all state-owned and, ultimately, state-run. And of course don’t forget our “state-run ‘health care’ program” (yes, use those quotes around the term health care, since that’s really just a cute ruse).
UPDATE: Liberalvision CTV should play too.
They refer to Venezuelan TV as “state television”. They should always refer to the CBC as “state television” as well.
