Another Police Chief Against Virtue-Signalling and Handgun Bans?

Add Vancouver Police to the list of those whose leadership doesn’t support a handgun ban. TheGunBlog.ca reports on comments made by the Deputy Chief just this week:

“We’ve got a position through the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police in terms of handguns,” Deputy Chief Howard Chow told a press conference yesterday in answering a question. “I’d ask you to refer to that, and that’s the position we take on it.”

The reporters know what that position is, since the Vancouver Chief of Police heads the organization. So when they asked the question at a news conference concerning more Vancouver gang/homeless/drug crime, this is not the answer they were hoping for, I don’t think.

The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police position is not in line with the Liberals, at all. As the state-owned CBC even reported recently (a Canadian Press story):

Police chiefs say handgun ban won’t stop flow of weapons into Canada

Many handguns being used for gun violence are already illegal
The Canadian Press · Posted: Aug 14, 2019 3:42 PM MT

The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police won’t be supporting a call for a ban on handguns despite concerns about gun violence in a number of major cities including Toronto.

Vancouver police Chief Adam Palmer, who heads the organization, says Canada already has strong firearms regulations and no other law is required. …

… Palmer says in the majority of cases involving gun violence, the handguns being used are already illegal and it makes no sense to ban something that is already prohibited.

“In every single case there are already offences for that. They’re already breaking the law and the criminal law in Canada addresses all of those circumstances,” Palmer said Wednesday at the conclusion of the association’s annual conference.

“The firearms laws in Canada are actually very good right now. They’re very strict.” …

This position makes it something of a trend, as TheGunBlog points out.

It’s only the politicians on the left that love to virtue signal — that’s just demonstrably true — objectively true — and they promise to ban guns all day long. They have for years. Virtue signal, or they try to freak you out (see the climate change file for more on that). But they tried that fear tactic with guns before, too.

Remember when in 2004 the Liberals actually had ads in which they pointed — and then fired — a handgun directly at viewers? If this wasn’t designed to freak you out, I don’t know what is.

(The ad was actually extremely deceptive to boot. See my PTBC article from back in the day.)

There is also tons evidence that many of those virtue-signallers on the left — and the reporters and anchors who “report” on this — don’t know anything about guns themselves, nor even the root causes of the gun violence. Or they don’t care.

The people on the front lines  — the people who know — the people who deal with this stuff all day long, know better. You should too.

Canadian News Media: AR-15 now a “military assault rifle.” By next week: “weapon of mass destruction.”

Liberals Caught With Misleading Ad. Illegal? Or Merely Immoral?
